Animal Intelligence

Every leader has an animal in the mirror. Most never meet it.

Animal Intelligence™ Framework

A Working Language for Unconscious Leadership Behavior

Under pressure, people do not become someone else.

They default to their unconscious settings. They become more instinctive. More driven by the patterns they cannot see.

The executive who dominates the room before anyone can challenge them. The leader who withdraws when tension rises. The high performer who over-functions until resentment takes over. The colleague who becomes sharp, reactive, avoidant, performative, or impossible to reach once stakes are high.

Most organizations misread these behaviors as personality.

Animal Intelligence™ reveals what is actually happening underneath them.

Created by Alina Doran, Animal Intelligence™ is a proprietary leadership framework that helps individuals and teams recognize the unconscious behavioral patterns driving conflict, mistrust, miscommunication, stalled performance, and self-sabotage under pressure.

Once leaders can name the pattern, they stop being run by it.

Animal Intelligence™ Explained

What It Is

Animal Intelligence™ is built around five archetypes — instinctive operating patterns that emerge when pressure, uncertainty, visibility, conflict, or threat activate the nervous system.

It is not a personality test.

It is a practical working language for the unconscious behaviors that quietly shape leadership effectiveness, communication, decision-making, collaboration, trust, executive presence, and culture under pressure.

The framework helps people recognize what they protect, how they protect it, and what becomes possible once awareness replaces autopilot.

How It Came to Be

Animal Intelligence™ was forged inside high-pressure organizations, executive coaching engagements, and transformational work with teams navigating complexity, growth, conflict, and change.

It has been delivered inside leadership cohorts, investor communities, and academic settings — including UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.

Most recently, Alina introduced the framework to a global audience in her TEDx talk, The Animal in the Mirror: How Smart Leaders Can Tame Self-Sabotage.

The North-Star Goal

The goal is not to eliminate instinct.

The goal is to become conscious enough to lead with intention instead of reaction.

Because the moment people can see the pattern, they regain agency.

Agency changes what becomes possible.

What It Unlocks

For Individuals:

  • Self-awareness under pressure

  • Less reactivity, more range

  • Sharper communication and presence

For teams:

  • Shared language for the dynamics no one names

  • Faster trust, more productive conflict

  • Collaboration that holds under pressure

For organizations:

  • Healthier leadership culture

  • Aligned decisions, stronger psychological safety

  • Performance that survives change, growth, and uncertainty

Ways to Bring This Work In

The Keynote: A high-voltage talk that wakes a room up to the animal it's been ignoring. Built for conferences, leadership summits, executive offsites, ERGs, and company-wide programming where the goal is conviction, not content.

The 90-Minute Workshop: Leaders identify their default setting under pressure and walk out with language and tools they can use in the next meeting. Ideal as an executive team intervention or premium event experience.

The Multi-Day Deep Dive: The format built for noticeable transformation. Leadership teams move through all five archetypes, work the patterns live, and leave with a different relationship to their own instincts. Ideal for founders, succession planning, post-merger integration, high-growth organizations, and culture reset moments.

The Cohort-Based Leadership Program: A multi-month development experience combining workshops, coaching, peer learning, and real-world application. Built for sustainable behavioral change, durable trust, and cultural impact that outlasts the program.

What's in the Sausage?

Clients don't need to know how the sausage is made. The solution works and that’s tasty.

But if you're curious, Animal Intelligence™ integrates:

  • behavioral science

  • somatic psychology

  • attachment theory

  • polyvagal theory

  • adult developmental theory

  • Internal Family Systems

  • cognitive & organizational psychology

  • neuroscience of threat & social connection

  • communication dynamics

  • evolutionary pattern-recognition models.

This isn't theory for theory's sake. It was built for real rooms, real tension, real consequences — in meetings, in conflict, in negotiations, in feedback, in change. Wherever trust, clarity, and influence decide the outcome.
